In Search of LOCAL
When was the last time you visited a local farm and picked your own fruits or veggies? Or visited your local farmers' market to shop for local products? Or went for a drive to check out some of Ontario's amazing local wineries, cideries or craft breweries? See the common theme in each of these activities?
Promoting agritourism for the past 20 years, has lead us to a new discovery: LOCAL Tourism.
What is LOCAL Tourism?
Anytime you go on a search to purchase local Ontario products from the people that grew it or made it, you are participating in Local Tourism. And this search for local takes on many forms. Some folks in larger cities, make regular visits to their local farmers' markets or craft breweries. Others venture further away from home and go on a day-trip outing to the countryside to visit a farm, farmers' market, craft brewery, winery, or cidery.
That's where we come in. Harvest Ontario is the source for LOCAL.
The Importance of Supporting LOCAL
There are numerous reasons to support LOCAL producers. Having a chance to converse with the people making the product provides a connection you would not have by shopping a a large retailer. Most importantly, when you shop from LOCAL producers, you are investing in 'community' by supporting small businesses as well as the local economy. And best of all, shopping local reduces environmental impact.
There's no time like the present to go local! It's as easy as 1-2-3. Explore your options. Experience the destination. Enjoy the benefits. Happy harvesting!
